Dave Doeren took the mic after beating Clemson and cut a WWE promo in opposition to some comments from Steve Smith, who called NC State a “basketball school” earlier as the guest picker on College Gameday. I definitely didn’t have this rivalry on my college football bingo card coming into the day.

What basketball has Steve Smith been watching? NC State’s last time higher than an 8-seed in the NCAA Tournament was in 2004. It’s a baseball school, if anything. I guess he didn’t expressly call it a “basketball school” like Doeren said, but I’d guess most NC State fans aren’t exactly fired up to watch more Kevin Keatts basketball.

Congrats to Doeren and the Wolfpack on the win, though. It’s very clear the Clemson reign is officially dead and buried, but every ACC team that can do it is still going to relish beating the Tigers while Dabo Swinney is there.
