Tennessee basketball signs four-star guard Bishop Boswell

Four-star guard Bishop Boswell has officially signed with Tennessee basketball, the program announced on Wednesday afternoon. Boswell is the lone commitment for the Vols in the class of 2024 to this point.

“We are thrilled to welcome Bishop Boswell and his mother, Brittany Boswell, to the Tennessee Basketball family,” Vols head coach Rick Barnes said. “Bishop is a great young man who exhibits superb leadership qualities.

“He is a big, versatile guard who is comfortable both scoring and facilitating. We are also excited about his ability to defend multiple positions on the other end of the court. A former football player, Bishop will also bring a high level of toughness that meshes well with our program.”

Boswell committed to Tennessee earlier this fall over Xavier, Wake Forest, Georgia and Missouri on Sept. 28. He took an official visit to Tennessee the weekend of Sept. 8 in addition to visits with his other finalists.

“I think one of the biggest parts is just the relationship with coach Barnes and the rest of the staff have with their players,” Boswell told 247’s Travis Branham about his decision to pick Tennessee. “He really loves them and it’s not just about the off-the-court love but he also develops them and makes them better on the court. He’s able to get the best out of his players and you have seen them develop a lot of guys over the years so I think that’s a big factor.

“Coach Barnes and Tennessee also have a winning culture and I like to win, so that’s appealing to me.”

247Sports ranks Boswell as the No. 77 overall player in the country, the No. 10 combo guard and the No. 8 player in North Carolina out of Myers Park in Charlotte. The industry-generated composite rankings rank him No. 69 overall, the No. 10 combo guard and the No. 7 player in the Tar Heel State.

“They embraced me and my family, not just me and my mom but my grandma and everyone else,” Boswell said. “I think it was cool to see how coach Barnes is on and off the court. He’s going to be like a father figure, love on you, make jokes and be funny but on the court he is serious. Another thing was walking around the game with Grant Williams and seeing how excited the fans are and how much they love the players.”

Tennessee emerged in Boswell’s recruitment after watching him play at Peach Jam, offering him a scholarship on July 12 with its entire coaching staff in attendance to watch him play. Boswell included UT in a top-six he released on on July 14 that also included Wake Forest, Xavier, Georgia, Missouri and South Carolina.

“I will be bringing everything I got,” Boswell said. “A hard worker, someone that is going to do everything in his power to win as many games as possible.”

On the AAU circuit, Boswell led Team CP3 in points (12.8), rebounds (5.6), assists (4.4) and steals (1.1) per game during the 2023 Nike EYBL slate. He ranked top-15 in the league in assists per game. He also had a 2.08 assist/turnover ratio while shooting 50% (74-of-148) from the floor, 36.5% (23-of-63) from three and 82.1% (46-of-56) at the line.
