It took over three hours on court, but 19-year-old US Open champion Coco Gauff is into her maiden Australian Open semi-final.

The American tennis star survived a three-hour, eight-minute roller-coaster against world No.37 Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine, 7-6(6), 6-7(3), 6-2 to reach the semi-finals a first time in five career appearances in Melbourne.

She awaits the winner defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, the No.2 seed, and 2021 Roland-Garros winner Barbora Krejcikova.

Gauff is looking to become the first woman to win the U.S. and Australian Opens in consecutive months since Naomi Osaka did so in 2020-21.

On the opposite side of the draw, No.12 seed Zheng Qinwen is the highest remaining seed after Linda Noskova surprised Iga Swiatek in the third round. Noskova takes on qualifier Dayana Yastremska, while Zheng plays Anna Kalinskaya.
