Tennis Longest Winning Streak: What are the longest in tennis history so far?

The greatest tennis players to ever pick up a racket, such as Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are all known for their trophy hauls but they also go on incredible runs so what are the longest winning runs from the very best?

The best run overall by a woman is held by Martina Navratilova set in 1984 when she reached 74 consecutive wins, leaving her eight clear of her nearest competitor in the form of Steffi Graf. She also holds third spot, setting 58 wins across 1986-1987.

Novak Djokovic shows off incredible versatility: Cricket gymnastics, basketball all in one go

Whilst for the men, the longest consecutive winning run in men’s tennis singles was held by Guillermo Vilas for 34 years when he won 46 consecutive matches in 1977. It was a record that stood for a long time until it was surpassed by Novak Djokovic in 2011, who won 43 consecutive matches that year.

Where does Djokovic’s winning streak at Australian Open fall overall?

After Jannik Sinner upset the defending champion, Djokovic, at the first major of the year at the Australian Open, it brought his 2000-day winning run in Melbourne to an end and marked just the second time in 19 years that either he, Nadal or Federer won’t win the opening slam.

Djokovic, in Australia, had been on a 33-match unbeaten run which tied Monica Seles for the best run by any player in the Open Era, a remarkable feat. But instead of celebrating his achievement, he was “shocked” at the loss to the Italian.

“I was, in a way, shocked with my level, you know, in a bad way,” Djokovic told reporters after the match. “There was not much I was doing right in the first two sets.

“I guess this is one of the worst Grand Slam matches I’ve ever played. At least that I remember.”
