The tremor lasted at least 30 seconds, prompting one anchor to flee the set and another to scream in terror continually. The center of the earthquake, which happened at 12:12 p.m. local time, was about 42 miles south of Guayaquil, which has 2.7 million people and is the second largest city in Ecuador. According to The Washington Post, the earthquake caused buildings to collapse and caused at least one fatality. According to reports, the quake was felt as far away as Peru, with the U.S. Geological Service estimating that up to 15,6 million people possibly felt it.
