Workers at a Tesla facility in Buffalo, New York, have declared their intention to unionize.
The workers stated in a news release on Tuesday, “We believe unionization will give us a voice in the workplace that has been overlooked up until now.” “All we want is a seat in the car we helped construct.”
According to a Bloomberg News article, several of the same activists behind the recent surge of unionizations at Starbucks outlets are behind the push.
The employees also expressed a desire to be more actively involved in the company’s growth, which they see as a vital actor in the green transition, in addition to wanting more authority at work.
The statement stated, “We think that by forming a union at Tesla, we will advance the sustainability mission and build a progressive atmosphere for all.” “By giving us a voice in the workplace and in the goals we set for ourselves, unionization will further expedite the world’s transition to sustainable energy.”
In addition, the organization demands that Tesla sign an agreement based on the Fair Election Principles to ensure that the business will not interfere with its legal right to organize.
Google signed a similar arrangement, although Amazon did not. Recent labor disputes at the latter organization have been markedly more heated.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has been forthright about his anti-union position. Indeed, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) determined that a tweet from 2018 by Musk constituted an implicit threat against workers.
