Kennebunk, Maine, is home to Snug Harbor Farm, a rustic New England-style farm situated on the grounds of a historic 1850s house and barn. Stock up on their specially made seed packets, from apricot foxglove to blue cornflower to field poppies, to bring a little of Great Dixter’s magic home with you.
Bowood Farms
The enticing array of perennials and annuals for sale at the fourth-generation family-owned Bowood Farms in St. Louis, Missouri, is all sustainably grown and will make any gardener swoon. Currently housed in a renovated 1920s warehouse, the complex is complete with a nursery, shop, and farm-to-table restaurant, Café Osage. And don’t forget about the Studio at Bowood, which offers an assortment of classes and workshops, such as botanical printmaking, throughout the year.
Vacherot et Lecoufle
Vacherot et Lecoufle is one of the world’s premier orchid growers. The nursery, a sight to behold, lies outside of Paris and will certainly transport you to warmer climes. Both familiar and unique orchid specimens abound, from the ubiquitous Phalaenopsis Big Zebra to the perfumed Oncidium Sphacelatum, and are all displayed en masse in the cathedral-style greenhouse.

A visit to Flora Grubb Gardens in San Francisco is sure to make you long for a dry, Californian-style garden. With an emphasis on plants that require minimal water and resources, the intriguing and unique species offered (everything from pincushion proteas to rare Brahea Clara palm trees) are grown by Grubb and her team in the sun-drenched Rainbow Valley of Southern California. We also love the sophisticated mix of modern pots and planters for sale, which are perfect containers for these rather sculptural specimens.

Whether brimming with zinnias and coneflowers in the late summer months or pansies and primroses in the spring, Birmingham, Alabama’s go-to garden boutique, Shoppe, is truly a feast for the eyes all year long. We especially love the picture-perfect greenhouse, which has us dreaming of throwing a dinner party amidst the ferns!
Secret Herb Garden
Nestled in the hills outside of Edinburgh, Scotland, the Secret Herb Garden is a (more than) 7-acre garden respite that focuses on all things herbs.
