Castro avoided media interviews and did not attend a news conference on Tuesday; however, he did indicate in a statement that he attended public schools in California. “As startled and happy as I am to have won the Powerball lottery, the actual winner is the public school system in California,” it added.

The objective of the California Lottery, which is to provide extra money for public education in California, including public schools and colleges, makes this a tremendous victory for the state. As someone who benefited from California’s public education system, it is wonderful to see that the state’s school system will also reap substantial benefits from my victory.
