Joey Graziadei allayed fans’ concerns regarding his health after receiving numerous messages about the yellowish hue in the whites of his eyes.
The Bachelor star disclosed on Instagram on Thursday that he has Gilbert syndrome, a common, benign liver illness that affects how the body processes bilirubin, a yellow waste product, according to the Mayo Clinic.
It causes pigment to accumulate in the skin and on the whites of the eyes.
In the video, the reality star claimed that he was originally diagnosed with the ailment in high school after being sick for “about a week and a half”.
Following tests, doctors discovered a high level of bilirubin in his blood, indicating liver problems. However, further extensive testing ruled out serious illnesses such as hepatitis.
“At the end of the day, I am told that I am healthy,” Graziadei stated. “It’s something that does affect the whites of my eyes, giving them that jaundiced appearance.
“It’s something I want to pay more attention to going into this year. I want to ensure my health is optimal,” he explained. “But I wanted to provide some background and reassure you that to my knowledge, I am healthy.”
Joey Graziadei is presently the primary star of ABC’s Bachelor Season 28, which airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
