The beauty of a bodycon

From Janhvi Kapoor to Beyonce, and Kim K to Priyanka Chopra Jonas, everyone’s a fan of the bodycon. And rightly so. There’s no outfit that accentuates and complements a curvaceous figure as much as a bodycon does. It’s very versatile too, throwing open myriad styling opportunities. However, there’s also no taking away from the fact that the body-hugging dress comes with some sartorial DOs and DON’Ts. We ask designers for details.

Material matters

“Thin material can ruin the entire look of a bodycon dress. Even more so if you decide to use shapewear inside,” cautions fashion designer Brunda Gowda. She says thicker material gives bodycon outfits a firmer structure. “Choose hues like black, mocha, grey or tan if you aren’t feeling too confident. If you like lighter shades, go for neutral tones such as nude and sand,” she advises.

Accessorise it right!

While it’s important to pay attention to details like texture and thickness of the fabric, accessories are super important too, for, fashion is about being playful in your choices without going totally overboard. “When styling a bodycon dress, I always recommend pairing it with a chic, compact clutch. The sleek design not only complements the dress’s curves but also adds an elegant touch to the overall look,” says Poonam Adhikari, head designer at Lino Perros. “For those who love a bit of sparkle, a bejewelled or metallic clutch can elevate the ensemble and make it pop. Alternatively, a mini crossbody bag is perfect for practicality, allowing you to keep your essentials close without detracting from your fabulous silhouette.”

Since minimalism always works when it comes to styling a bodycon dress, Gowda advises keeping accessories simple. Her pick is a pair of earrings, but she stresses that they need to be simple, not flashy. “And avoid chunky necklaces,” she adds.

The right footwear can provide a striking contrast to monochromatic bodycon dresses.

For daytime events like a fun day at the movies or a brunch with your girlfriends, choose a pair of pristine white sneakers. Strappy sandals go well with the look too.

Layer it up with an oversized denim jacket if you aren’t too confident showing off your silhouette just yet. But hey, it’s 2024, the world’s your oyster. So, go have some fun in a bodycon – better late than never!

Everyone loves a good bodycon, from Janhvi Kapoor and Beyonce to Kim K and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. A bodycon is the only outfit that highlights and enhances a voluptuous form so well.

Additionally, it offers a wide range of style options due to its versatility.
