Those that frequent Art Basel Miami, the annual art week that has moved into more equal parts massive social experiment (remember last year’s ATM machine that displayed one’s checking balance?) and art fair, expect to not have peace for a few days. The week is a sensory overload of parties, gallery exhibitions, dinners, and other social inclinations that cause people to socialize more in a week than they do in a season.
Basel has certain treasures, though, and this year is no exception. Louis Vuitton presented a selection of works that Frank Gehry, the Canadian-American Architect who has worked with the Maison on various occasions, introduced a limited edition Louis Vuitton x Frank Gehry handbag collection that is certainly its potential. The David Nolan Gallery hit its 25th year exhibiting at Art Basel internationally, and presented artists with a global point-of-view: Vian Sora in Baghdad, Chakaia Booker from New York’s East Village, and Brazilian artist Paulo Pasta just to name a few. Silverlens Gallery makes their Miami Basel with a solo exhibition of Norberto Roldan.
As usual, there are gems at this year’s fair. All you have to do is know where to look. (Or continue scrolling.)
