‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ Features A Man Getting A Vasectomy Live On…

Drew Barrymore just proved that her self-titled daytime talk show isn’t exclusively for women. Just one month after a brave taker had her annual pap smear broadcast on national television, today’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show featured a man’s vasectomy live from a Brooklyn doctor’s office.

At the start of the episode — titled “Take Care Everywhere: Men’s Edition” — Barrymore and Ross Mathews introduced Dr. Jacob Khurgin and his patient, Nick, who appeared on the show via video call.

Before they began the procedure, Nick explained that he opted to get a vasectomy — which, “in a nutshell,” is a permanent form of contraception for men — to help take the birth control burden off of his wife, who had a difficult pregnancy with their three-year-old son.

“Nick, I hate to break it to you, but it’s showtime!” Mathews said when it was time to start the procedure. “Dr. Jacob is gonna get you into position. “

According to Nick, his wife was “very nice” to him leading up to the vasectomy, which, unlike most cases, was happening in front of the world.

“She was like, ‘It’ll be ok, I know you’re gonna be nervous,’” he recalled when Barrymore asked for the last thing his wife said to him. “She was really sweet this morning. Before that, she told me not to be a big wimp but other than that, she was very nice.”

Later on in the episode, Barrymore and Mathews checked back in on Dr. Jacob, who was halfway through the procedure. He even held up a little piece of Nick’s “vas” that he had snipped.

“It’s smaller than I thought,” Barrymore said, to which Mathews joked, “No guy ever wants to hear that! Don’t say that!”

Fortunately for Nick, Dr. Jacob assured the duo that his “vas is huge.”

Once the procedure had wrapped up, the doctor said everything went “according to plan,” while Nick told the audience that he was feeling “pretty good.”

“I’m a little embarrassed that I was so nervous, to be honest. But Dr. Jacob did an amazing job,” he said, before Mathews added, “It really is a first and having a conversation that we haven’t really had before. I think it’s really brave what you did today.”
