Oneida Tennis is off to NYC.

The Oneida Girls’ Tennis Team secured a 3-2 victory against Ichabod Crane in a regional tennis match. This win marks the second time in three years that Oneida has earned a spot in the NYS tennis tournament in New York City. This year’s impressive performance has brought their record to an undefeated 21-0.

Oneida was down 2-1, with first doubles and third singles still playing. The freshman duo of Madelyn Barretta and Kaylee French overcame losing the second set with a superb 3rd set victory.

The match was all tied at 2-2, with Lilly Gormley going into a third set. Lilly did a great job coming back from a hard-fought first set.

Oneida will send a doubles team to the state tournament next week. The following week, Oneida will travel to the city for the semi-finals.

Jack Romagnoli inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Cazenovia resident Jack Romagnoli was recently inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as an Outstanding American. His image and bio will be enshrined in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Romagnoli organized youth wrestling programs throughout CNY and resurrected discontinued high school programs at CBA and Jamesville Dewitt. Romagnoli wrestled at Canastota High School and St. Lawrence University. He is also a member of the Section 3 Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Section III Football brackets released.

The regular season has come to an end. And with it comes the beginning of sectionals. For local squads participating, we only have a select few. In Class B, the number one seed, New Hartford, takes on the eight-seeded Westhill. The four-seeded Chittenango Bears will take on Carthage. Camden also clinched a sectional birth and will take on Indian River. Moving into Class C, the number one seed Cazenovia will take on Holland Patent. This game is listed to be played at SUNY Morrisville. Lastly, Morrisville-Eaton will take on Sauquoit Valley in the 8-man bracket.

Field Hockey and Soccer Updates

Boys

Clinton still has a leg in this race. They will take on the number one seed Skaneateles. After taking down Copenhagen, Hamilton will take on the three-seeded Lyme.

Field Hockey

On Sunday, Clinton will take on Mt. Markham at V.V.S. High School in the Class C final. Morrisville-Eaton will take on Little Falls in the Class D final.

No. 22 Syracuse Men’s Soccer Draws with NC State

Syracuse split points with NC State on Sunday as the teams played to a 1-1 draw at the SU Soccer Stadium.

After playing a scoreless opening 45 minutes, both team’s goals came in the second half of play.

The Orange outshot the Wolfpack, 18-2, and had more corners, 11-2.

‘Cuse controlled the tempo during the first half, outshooting NC State, 7-0, but were unable to find the back of the net.

The Wolfpack were able to get on the board at 50:23 following an Orange turnover. Hakim Karamoko dribbled down the left side of the box and placed the ball in the lower right corner, past the diving Jahiem Wickham.

Syracuse did not fold, continuing to put offensive pressure on NC State. The Orange registered 11 second-half shots and 10 corner kicks.

‘Cuse was able to level the match at one at 76:33 following a Wolfpack own goal. Senior Lorenzo Boselli put a quick shot on net that was stopped by NC State goalkeeper, Samuel Terranova, but the rebound bounced off a defender back into the net.

The Orange continued its offensive attack following the own goal, earning six corners and six shots, but were unable to get the go-ahead tally.

Syracuse finished the regular season with a home record of 6-1-3. This was ‘Cuse’s first own goal in 2023, the team had two last season. Boselli recorded five shot attempts with four going on goal, both season highs for the senior. Boselli now leads the team with 38 shot attempts and 14 shots on target. Sunday marked the seventh match where Syracuse has had at least 10 corners. The team’s 18 shot attempts were the third-most in a contest this year.

Syracuse concludes the 2023 regular season on Friday, Oct. 27, at Boston College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (ACC Network Extra).
