BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Nothing can ruin a holiday faster than a Christmas tree fire or someone getting injured from a decorating accident. I spoke to BGMU and a University of Kentucky program coordinator, and I learned that there are a few things you may want to avoid.
While it is completely normal to get excited for the holidays and focus on preparing gifts and decorations, it is really important not to cut corners when it comes to your safety.
The BGMU Marketing coordinator, Shelley Lowe shares the value of your safety and how some traditions if we are not cautious can be extremely dangerous.
Lowe says, “It’s important to be safe, especially around the holidays. Lights can present an electrical hazard, so you want to make sure that your lights are in good working order.”
There are other common accidents that do happen often during the holiday season. A program coordinator, Robert McCool tells us that fires happen more often during the holiday season. He also shares his knowledge of fires during the holiday season and their large impact.
McCool says, “There are certainly more fires typically over the holidays, and any time you have more fires there are going to be more fire-related injuries. Some years it’s not as bad as others, but typically the holidays are a very high-risk period.”
When you are on Christmas break from school or off from work, you may want to be more carefree in your daily activities. However, when it comes to typical traditions like lighting candles it is important to remain cautious.
It’s always better to be safe than sorry and to really take your time. Don’t put others at risk. It’s always important to stay safe when you can, especially accidents are avoidable. For more tips visit https://www.bgmu.com/customer-care/tips/.
