When I started freelance writing for the Daily Republic in 2006, one of the fun things that I would sometimes do were stories for the Friday Diversions section when full-time writer Amy Maginnis was on vacation. They would often involve me interviewing a celebrity.

Now most of the interviews were not in person, but done via telephone. But in a way, the phoners are more intimate than being part of some press event.
