Skincare is constantly evolving, and licensed practitioners work diligently to master the latest options to help their clients look and feel their best. To help us stay in the know, we asked skincare and beauty experts around the South to dish on the trends, techniques, and products they’re most excited about for 2025!
Scalp Health
The scalp is often overlooked in daily beauty routines, yet it plays a vital role in overall hair health. Mary Kathryn Hudson, VP of Sales and Marketing at Nashville, TN’s Therapy Systems — which includes The Cosmetic Market and Private Edition — loves their new HydraFacial Keravive Treatment.
This innovative therapy promotes natural hair growth by purifying the scalp, removing dirt, oil, and dead skin cells, stimulating circulation, opening hair follicles, and infusing hydration through light suction and exfoliation.
Medical-Grade Skincare
“Winter presents challenges and opportunities for maintaining and improving skin texture, appearance, and wrinkle reduction,” says Dr. Joseph DeLozier, who provides patients with state-of-the-art aesthetic services at DeLozier Cosmetic Surgery Center and Medical Spa at two Nashville-area locations. With increased time indoors, low humidity, and cold exposure, he recommends products from Skinbetter Science, ZO Skin Health, and their house DeLozier Skin Care line for medical-grade moisturizing.
Peels & Laser Resurfacing
Dr. Meg Ferguson is an experienced plastic surgeon at DeLozier Plastic Surgery. She points out that colder months are a great time to schedule a peel or laser resurfacing — with the sun at its least oppressive, healing times are usually shorter. “We recommend Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA), Fractional CO2 (Mixto), or the more aggressive Renuvion Plasma for tackling the deepest wrinkles,” she tells us. “For discoloration or texture improvement with little downtime, the Sciton Laser provides dramatic and lasting results.”
Natural Beauty (& Ingredients!)
Amy Head and her daughter, MacKenzie Walker, of Amy Head Cosmetics agree on one favorite trending ingredient in natural skincare — the plant-based compound bakuchiol, considered a safe and sensitive-friendly alternative to retinol. “It’s also photo-stable and can be used in the morning along with your moisturizer and sunscreen,” Amy says.
Jill Copeland-Henderson, owner of The Retreat Day Spa in Birmingham, AL, is a longtime fan of the acclaimed Éminence Organics line. Originating from Hungary, the company is held to strict European standards for organic skincare. “Combining their Facial Recovery Oil and Marine Flower Peptide Night Cream is amazing for locking in your skin’s moisture and supporting the skin barrier,” she shares.
Summer Moore, co-founder of Nashville’s Luxe & Luna Boutique Spa, offers an alternative to steroid creams that help with dryness and irritation but tend to thin the skin with regular use — Biologique Recherche’s Toleskin Cream. “It restores the skin’s barrier and microbiota, offering steroid-like results without the risks,” she explains.
For the perfect “no-makeup-makeup” look, Medical Aesthetician Valerie Derrick at Nashville’s Woods Aesthetics is a fan of Colorscience Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield Flex SPF 50, featuring tone-adjusting pigments that leave skin radiant, even, and protected. The medical spa’s Woods Aesthetics Tinted Defense is a universally tinted oil-free SPF46 with skin-loving ingredients like zinc oxide, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid.
Red Light Therapy
Both Mallory Hamilton, an aesthetician at Nashville’s Woo Skincare and Cosmetics, and Valerie Derrick of Woods Aesthetics recommend red light therapy for collagen production and anti-inflammatory benefits. You can ask a trusted practitioner about in-office options or take advantage at home with masks from Omnilux and Dr. Gross, which are gentle enough for daily use.
Filler Dissolving & Fat Grafting
“We have more patients who want their filler dissolved and replaced with fat grafting — a surgical procedure where fat is removed from one area of the body using liposuction and then injected into another to add volume or improve contours,” says Dr. Dan Hatef, MD, of Hatef Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery in Nashville.
The process uses an ultrasound to guide hyaluronidase injections to dissolve fillers, which can then be followed by in-office fat grafting under local anesthesia.
Breakthrough Techniques & Technology
Beverly Saavedra, licensed esthetician and owner of The Skin Studio in Vestavia Hills, AL, is excited to offer the exclusive Friolift to clients. The treatment uses the synergy of radiofrequency and cryotechnology to deeply and safely penetrate the skin for collagen production and long-lasting facial contouring.
The team at Birmingham’s Retreat Day Spa is particularly excited about the latest Oxygeneo Glo2 Facial, which stimulates the body to send oxygen to the surface via the Bohr effect. “The result is beautifully hydrated and exfoliated skin that exudes a lovely glow, which is perfect to have done before a big event or wedding,” says Owner Jill.
In Nashville, Tami Hall of Escape Day Spa highly recommends a sculpting facial complete with buccal massage — a hands-on deep-pressure massage designed to lift, tone, and define the facial muscles. “This facial is like a workout for your face, providing immediate results,” Tami tells us. “It reduces puffiness, diminishes fine lines, and sculpts the jawline and cheekbones while relieving jaw tension and TMJ.”
Body Contouring
Dr. Kristy Curl of Renew Dermatology in Homewood, AL, recommends the Emsculpt Neo — a non-invasive, tailored body contouring device that combines radiofrequency heat to reduce fat and tighten skin with HIFEM technology to enhance muscle strength and definition.
“This treatment tones and tightens while also building core strength and restoring muscle mass,” she explains. “It’s even effective for conditions like mild diastasis recti after pregnancy.”
