Britney Spears almost played the lead part in The Notebook opposite Ryan Gosling after breaking up with Justin Timberlake in the early 2000s, but the producers chose Rachel McAdams instead.
The singer’s two-and-a-half-minute emotional audition was first reported by The Daily Mail. During the audition, the Toxic singer slowly broke down in tears while reading a very raw and famous scene.
In the clip, Spears is seen putting on a white lace top and letting her hair down to look like the character.
She gets more emotional as she reads her lines, which shows why she should have been in the running for the part.
The 44-year-old film director Matthew Barry told the outlet that the former actress was better than other candidates like Claire Danes, Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams, and Jessica Biel.
Spears was only 21 years old when she tried out, and she gave a very emotional performance in her screen test with Ryan Gosling.
Barry says that the movie directors were “blown away” by Spears’ amazing performance as the character and her honest emotion.
Her part in the movie was almost set before 44-year-old McAdams walked into the room and was picked as the perfect main lady.
