The North Carolina Music Hall of Fame Inducts Betty Davis with a performance by FUNKHOUSE

The North Carolina Music Hall of Fame proudly announces the induction of Betty Davis, an iconic figure in the music world, with a special performance by her original band, FUNKHOUSE. The induction ceremony took place at the Mooresville Performing Arts Center on October 19th, in the distinguished company of esteemed guests and family members. The performance was a dynamic showcase of Davis’s enduring musical legacy as the band brought their infectious energy and tight grooves to the stage.

Betty Davis, known for her revolutionary contributions to funk music, was honored for her extraordinary talent and significant impact on the music scene. Throughout her career, Betty Davis captivated audiences with her unique style, powerful vocals, and fearless stage presence. “Her fearless approach to blending genres has left an indelible mark on the music world and this induction was long overdue. Her influence continues to have an impact on musicians and music lovers alike.

The evening’s festivities were made even more memorable by drummer Nicky Neal and guitarist Larry Johnson, original members of Betty’s band FUNKHOUSE. Sadly, the band also dedicated this performance to the late Carlos Morales and Fredrick “Funki” Mills, both of whom have played a significant role in the band’s success and have been a great asset to them. Their musical contributions will always be remembered and cherished by us.

In addition to the festivities surrounding the induction ceremony, Bettys younger cousin, Rachelle Neal was present to represent her. Rachelle has been performing and traveling with FUNKHOUSE since the making of the documentary, “They Say I’m Different”, adding an intimate and personal touch to the event. Many attendees remarked that Rachelle was “perfect to represent her,” further enhancing the celebration of Betty Davis’s musical legacy.

In addition to Neal, the event was graced with the presence of two other important family members. Betty Davis’s 95-year-old auntie Elnora Neal and niece Cheana Mabry were in attendance, adding a special familial touch to the occasion. Their support and presence attest to Betty Davis’ impact on her loved ones and the wider music community. Betty’s family would like to thank Steve Edmonds, Gary Purcell, and Cedrina Harris for joining them on such a remarkable night.

The North Carolina Music Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserving and honoring the state’s rich musical heritage. By recognizing Betty Davis’s significant contributions, the Hall of Fame will ensure her legacy lives on to inspire future generations of musicians and music lovers.
