The real connection between nutrition and quality sleep

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — This morning on the show, we tackled the great debate: which is better? quality or quantity when it come to sleep?

Joining us to unpack it all was certified health coach, Meghan Tomlinson.   On the show we learned there truly is a connection between nutrition and quality of sleep.  We also learned that poor sleep, can actually lead us to make poor food choices the next day. (who knew?!?)

Tomlinson tells us: “when you eat is just as important as what you eat, when it comes to quality sleep and good nutrition.”

When asked about keys to good night sleep, she says it’s always a good idea to aim to eat your last meal 2-3 hours before you go to bed. Tomlinson also explained her brain dump approach which she shares with clients: she says she knows it can be tough to get a good night’s sleep when your mind is racing! That’s why she says keep a pad of paper by your bed, write down all your thoughts you are having and all that is in your head before you climb into bed, that helps you clear your mind, which also helps you to relax.

A few other key steps we can all take: try and get at least 10 minutes of sunshine without sunglasses on to start your day, limit caffeine intake, ditch the phone (and blue screen) for an old fashioned alarm clock, natural supplements also help (magnesium and tart cherry juice). Tart cherry gummies are a great post dinner treat.  To learn more at wellwithmeghan.com
