Amber-Dawn Bear Robe has enjoyed a high-profile role as a fashion show curator for years, but this year, she has added the lofty titles of founder and executive director.

After years of working with the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts, producing its fashion shows including last year’s first focused exclusively on Indigenous models and designers, Bear Robe launched her own Native Fashion Week. The two sides disagree about what led to the split, and Bear Robe’s Native Fashion Week will compete head to head with SWAIA’s on all four of its days.

Actually, “compete” might not be the right word, given the two events are aimed at similar crowds. Native Fashion Week includes 10 runway shows, numerous ancillary events, and the ability to watch all the runway shows via livestream.
