‘They were young’: Hampden man says he witnessed car chase, shooting in broad daylight

A Hampden man tells FOX45 News he was walking home from cutting his uncle’s grass when he witnessed a crime unfold in his neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

“One was in reverse and one was coming towards him — you know what I mean,” said Keith Morgereth. “And he was just like this — pow pow pow — letting loose inside the car. And then he – boom, plowed this and then went up that street.”

Morgereth said around lunchtime Tuesday, he witnessed two vehicles that appeared to be chasing each other near the intersection of West 41st Street and Buena Vista Avenue.

He said he heard three or four gunshots.

“I was scared for my life — you know what I mean?” he said. “Bullets started flying. You don’t know where they’re going.”

Late Tuesday, BPD said it did not have a report of a shooting in the 4100 block of Buena Vista Avenue.

FOX45 News cameras, however, saw several BPD cruisers and a Baltimore City Schools patrol vehicle on the scene after the incident.

At least three parked cars were also visibly damaged.

Morgereth said he believes the suspects were juveniles.

“They were young,” he said. “Really young kids. I could tell they were young.”

The lifelong Baltimore resident shared his frustrations with FOX45 News after what he witnessed.

“It’s crazy,” he said. “These juveniles are outta control. Something’s gotta be done.”
