A Georgia restaurant that charges customers a fee if their kids won’t behave has triggered a debate online. Toccoa Riverside Restaurant in the Blue Ridge Mountains in northern Georgia, says that an “adult surcharge” will be levied for “adults who are unable to parent”.

The information was mentioned at the bottom of the menu, however, no amount was specified. But, according to recent reviews on Google, the surcharge is $50 (Rs 4,161 approximately). The note at the bottom also urged diners to be respectful towards staff or they will be refused service.

According to Insider, a reviewer on Google claimed that the owner “made a huge scene in front of the entire restaurant because our children were ‘running through the restaurant’ – they were down by the river.” He also informed that the owner called them “bad parents” and asked them to go to Burger King or Walmart instead.

A picture of the menu was shared by a user on Reddit. “This restaurant charges you extra for bad parenting,” the caption read.

The post obviously went viral and garnered a lot of attention from social media users.

“Going from the WiFi name, I’m pretty sure this is in Blue Ridge, GA, which is a bit of a tourist town. My guess is there’s no other real competition so as long as they provide the best minimum, they’ll continue to stay in business,” a user wrote.

“If I read this at a restaurant I would probably leave. Charge for unruly kids and a ‘share charge $3’ like who cares if I want to share my food once I pay for it?” another user commented. A third user remarked, “Clearly, this owner/manager is a cheapskate looking to make as much money as possible.”

“I’m all for encouraging people not to let their kid run around screaming in restaurant, but this is all quite a bit much,” a fourth user added.

The restaurant’s menu also stated that diners will have to pay 3.5% more than the listed menu prices if they pay by card and an extra $3 if they share food. It may also charge an 18% gratuity to larger parties, people hosting birthday gatherings, and diners asking to split the check.

Meanwhile, Toccoa Riverside Restaurant has a 4.1-star rating on Google and a 3.5-star rating on TripAdvisor.
