Oct. 23, 1971 – Monongah, West Virginia, native Kerry Marbury set a single-game WVU rushing record (291 yards on 22 carries) that stood for 33 years (until Kay-Jay Harris ran for 337 yards versus East Carolina in 2003) in West Virginia’s 43-33 home victory over Temple. After Marbury and fullback Pete Wood had to leave the game with injuries, Bobby Bowden (who coached WVU to a 7-4 record in his second season) had his quarterback seal the win, as Bernie Galiffa found Harry Blake for an 82-yard touchdown reception.
Oct. 24, 2010 – Nikki Izzo-Brown’s 15th WVU women’s soccer squad (9-1-1 in the Big East and 13-4-1 overall) defeated visiting Providence, 2-1, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. It was West Virginia’s school record-tying ninth consecutive victory.
