RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Millions nationwide are expected to travel by plane over spring break. Locally, the Reno-Tahoe Airport is expecting 16,000 travelers a day, an 1,000 -passenger increase from last year.
The airport is expecting 20 high-travel, where upwards of 16,000 people will be traveling through the airport. You can arrive early to beat the rush but planning ahead is ideal.
“Now would be a great time. There’s a lot of flight deals that happen when it’s in that close proximity for when you want to leave,” said Nicolle Staten, the Public Affairs Coordinator. “Our slowest day at the airport is going to be March 30th so that might be a great day to book for.”
The busiest travel days will be March 28, April 4 and April 8th.
During heavy travel times, parking and security lines are going to be long. TSA reported an increase in travelers this year. “Definitely recommend doing TSA pre check, that will help you get through the line faster. TSA is anticipating a 6% increase, that’s what they reported, nationwide,” added Staten.
The airport says they will be near or at capacity for the parking structures. Over 4,000 cars are expected to be using the airport parking. “We have real-time flight availability and parking availability. So make sure you use those tools online before heading to the airport. The airport is going to be very busy when it comes to parking. We are going to be at capacity or near capacity.” The website has updates on flight status and parking availability.
