Three generations of artists at one studio

As a longtime member of the Sonoran Arts League, renowned oil and watercolor artist Jeanne Bonine has participated in Hidden in the Hills for more than two decades. This year’s event will be a unique family affair though, featuring three generations of Bonine artists. Joining Jeanne in this artistic celebration are her daughter-in-law, Callie Bonine, an accomplished equine artist working in pastels and oils, and her granddaughter, Caity Bonine, a passionate photographer known for her captivating imagery.

Jeanne Bonine, at age 80, reflects on this milestone with profound emotion. “It is a fairytale come true,” she said. “A chance to share my legacy and to introduce a new world of in-depth, meaningful art created by those I love to the world and to my followers.” Jeanne’s first art print from 1986, titled “Fairytales Do Come True,” resonates deeply with this moment, symbolizing the fulfillment of her artistic journey and the joy of nurturing the next generation of Bonine artists.

Jeanne began her career selling her paintings in her hometown of St. Paul, Minnesota. Her continual persistence and hard work led her to one person showings in galleries, exhibition trade shows in New York and Atlanta, as well as three museum showings in Arizona, where she found her true home.

While her early work was ethereal and soft, her paintings have evolved to become bigger and bolder, showing both strength and softness. She also began to write prose to accompany each painting. She continues to produce work that captivates and inspires. Attendees of the studio tour will have the opportunity to view her complete library of work, including new pieces she believes are among her best. Her art is celebrated for its strength, softness, depth and sensitivity, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in a place of peace.

Callie Bonine has rekindled her passion for art, creating works that capture the beauty and strength of horses. Her pastel and oil paintings invite you to feel her deep connection to these majestic animals, reflecting her lifelong passion as an equestrian.

Caity Bonine, who has been enamored with photography from a young age, will showcase her talent for creating meaningful work that brings the beauty of life to light. Growing up in a family of artists, Caity always felt a profound connection to creative expression. Her photographs evoke moments of emotion, a widening of the viewer’s eyes, a slowing of the breath, and an appreciation of the romance of life. She finds immense joy in capturing moments through her lens. “Nothing excites me more than taking photos. I am obsessed with this job, if I can even call it that,” she said.

A long-time resident of the Sonoran Desert for over 30 years, Jeanne’s Studio No. 20 is nestled on a tranquil, dead-end desert road in Scottsdale, surrounded by a charming and warm garden of greenery. This serene environment is a reflection of the peaceful and immersive experience her art provides.
