Tiafoe vs Bublik Prediction (R1): 2023 ATP Paris Tennis

Frances Tiafoe has not really been at his best since the 2023 US Open a couple of months ago. In an upcoming match from the 2023 Paris Masters, Tiafoe will be trying to right the ship. He will face Alexander Bublik at the 2023 ATP Paris tennis event on Monday, a match that will be played at about 7:30 AM ET for those following in the USA. This will be a first-round match in the tournament, the final Masters Series event of the season. My Tiafoe vs Bublik prediction is that the latter will win this match in a mild upset.

Frances Tiafoe vs Alexander Bublik Head-to-Head Series

Tiafoe is 2-1 over Bublik on head-to-heads. The American claimed a victory at Wimbledon 2022 and at Washington in 2019. Bublik’s win came at Eastbourne in 2022. There is not much to read into their head-to-heads because the only hard-court match that they played was back in 2019.

Tiafoe got into the quarterfinals last week in Vienna through a soft draw. He won in the first round last week via retirement. Then, Tiafoe had a really tough time with Gael Monfils, despite the fact that the French player was coming off of a deep run the week before. Tiafoe would lose in the quarterfinals to the tournament’s eventual champion, Jannik Sinner.

In Tokyo and Shanghai earlier this month, Tiafoe went 0-2. He also went 0-2 in Davis Cup matches, despite being the favorite in each. Furthermore, he lost as an odds-on favorite in the US Open quarterfinals to Ben Shelton. You have to wonder if it’s this loss that sent Tiafoe reeling. He did storm into the quarterfinals at that Grand Slam with a 12-1 record on sets played at the venue. Was he thinking a spot in the semifinals was his?

Tiafoe vs Bublik Prediction: Bublik wins

Tiafoe is just a small favorite to win this match at -125 (bet365). Bublik does have a recent title on tour. A couple of weeks ago, he won the Antwerp title before losing to Casper Ruud last week in Basel.

The last time Bublik played was October 25th and he has had mostly days off recently. Tiafoe should not be tired following his efforts in Vienna. However, he just isn’t trustworthy to bet right now following so many questionable losses. Bettors should take Bublik on the moneyline at EVEN odds (+100). Also, Bublik to win the quarter at +1800 is not a bad pick given that the two favorites, Daniil Medvedev and Hubert Hurkacz, may both be tired for Paris after playing in Sunday finals.
