Tidelands Health introduces medical record system, app to improve accessibility

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – Accessing medical records will soon be easier for patients of one Georgetown County healthcare system.

The MUSC affiliate Tidelands Health announced they will be implementing a new electronic medical record system known as “Epic.” They’re also introducing a new app called “My Tidelands Health.”

The new system aims to transform the delivery of health care across the region by streamlining access to medical information, improving care coordination for patients and providers and enhancing care delivery, according to the healthcare system.

The $40 million investment in Epic and related technologies will give care providers and patients access to an effective or coherent view of a patient’s health record in one convenient place.

And because Tidelands Health is the region’s MUSC Health affiliate, the Tidelands Health Epic platform will be integrated with the MUSC Health Epic system.

Users can find a provider, get directions to Tidelands Health locations, explore health tips, view medical records, schedule appointments, request prescription refills, message their providers, pay bills, and more.

“So if you’re a patient, for instance, and you know, maybe you live here six months out of the year and you live in Ohio six months out of the year, you know, you’ll be able to conveniently see your medical records across multiple organizations, which is the idea of the electronic medical record is to make that visibility and that connectivity as convenient as it can be,” Stevens said.

As part of the transition to Epic, Tidelands Health is introducing the new My Tidelands Health app, which is available for download at no cost in the App Store and Google Play Store.

Users can find a provider, get directions to Tidelands Health locations, explore health tips, view medical record, schedule appointments, request prescription refills, message their providers, pay bills, and more.

“The big thing that I would ask and say to patients is bear with us. I mean this is a huge change. I mean it is literally changing just major facets of the way that our team members do their work, and it’s a great improvement, but it’s a change and so we may be just a little bit slower as we’re getting used to it,” Stevens said.

Currently Tidelands has multiple systems in place, which makes it harder for patients and for care team members to access medical information quickly, easily, and conveniently in the same spot.

The conversion to Epic and patients’ ability to access their MyChart through the My Tidelands app will all take place on March 2.
