Tip to help you build resilience from a mental health coach

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — In this week’s Wellness Wednesday, life and mental health coach, Cheryl Bridges, spoke to DC News Now about the importance of building resilience.

Bridges said, “Building resilience is the ability to bounce back from setbacks and emerge stronger on the other side.”

She added that it’s important “because in the world we live in, some of us are dealing with some sort of adversity… financial setbacks, relationship issues, job loss, so many things; so, we have to be able to understand how to bounce from those setbacks, if not it leads to depression, anxiety, and stress.”

Bridges said there are two mindsets that can you choose between when facing challenges in life. “One is fixed and one is a growth mindset. Fixed is the negative view that I cannot do anything about this it’s never going to change. Growth says let me embrace this challenge and look at it as a gift or opportunity for me to grow,” Bridges told DC News Now.

According to the American Psychological Association, there are several ways to build resilience, including accepting change, learning from the past, and getting professional help.
