- All calls for Animal Control Services on private property are the responsibility of the property owner. The fee for such service is $35.00 during regular service hours: Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Saturdays 8:30 to 3:00. All other times, including legal holidays (emergency service) the fee shall be $107.63.

To report a dead deer in the roadway, please call the Scotch Plains Police nonemergency number: 908-322-7100 ext. 0 You will be asked to provide the location. If the animal is on private property, the property owner is responsible for arranging to get the carcass to the side of road before removal. If the deer remains on private property, the property owner will be charged a minimum of $150.00 for its removal.
Dog and cat bites are required by law to be reported to the local health department 908-322-6700 ext. 309 and local police 908-322-7100 ext. 0.
An annual free Rabies vaccination clinic is held each year in the spring and fall; please check the website periodically for dates. You can take your pet to any town in Union County for this service.

Trapping of Wildlife
Residents should be aware that trapping healthy wildlife is regulated by the New Jersey Department of Fish and Game and either a trapper’s permit or a depredation permit is required under State Law. Under these regulations the loaning of traps to residents is prohibited. Residents may contact the New Jersey Fish and Game nuisance animal relocation hotline at 908-735-8793 or a private wildlife removal company for further assistance. A list of permit requirements and regulations can be found below.
