Orange’s fire chief gives an update on a deadly Route 34 crash.
The tractor trailer went off the road and hit a utility pole and a tree. The vehicle then continued a little way onto Orange Center Road before it stopped. The driver suffered minor injuries.
The person who was on the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
No identities were released.
“Roads, when they get wet they’re slippery, just like when it snows,” Dumas said. “The oil comes out of the asphalt [and] they just create some slipper conditions on the road, and people tend to forget that and they may not reduce speed for the conditions of approaching.”
Troopers could not say when they expected the road to reopen.
Orange police asked drivers to avoid the area.
“We expect the road to be closed through the morning rush hours,” Orange police said.
