The Transylvania Community Arts Council’s latest exhibit “Community” opened Friday evening to a packed gallery.
The community art exhibition was conceived as a way to process the storm’s aftermath and the resilience it inspired within the local community. Hurricane Helene, which passed through the region with significant force, left a lasting impression on both the landscape and the lives of those who live here.
The Arts Council called on artists of all disciplines and experience levels to submit works which captured their thoughts following the devastating storm.
The timely exhibit drew art enthusiasts, local creatives and community members to celebrate the power of art inspired by shared experience.
It showcased an overwhelming response of works created by local artists.
More than 30 artists contributed to the exhibit, offering paintings, sculptures and photographs.
Haunting depictions of storm-ravaged scenes were displayed by artist Kira Bursky, in attendance, to hopeful portrayals of renewal and recovery.
One standout piece was a vivid painting by Nancy Scardo entitled “Gratitude,” depicting barren trees, colorful flowers and wild animals in action.
The collection resonated deeply with attendees.
“We have a unique way of helping us process and heal,” said local resident, Susan Thomas.
“Seeing how everyone channeled their experiences into these works is incredibly powerful,” said another local resident, Austin Lynch.
This exhibit stands as a testament to the resilience, creativity and unbreakable spirit of Transylvania County.
“Community” will remain on display at the Transylvania Community Arts Council gallery through Feb. 15. Admission is free, although donations are encouraged to support future community art initiatives.
