We all know about the growing mental health crisis in healthcare. We’ve likely all heard about the challenges that social determinants of health (SDoH) play in our health. How often have you heard how SDoH impacts people’s mental health? The answer is certainly not enough, but many of the SDoH impact a person’s mental health as much as their physical health.
In order to learn more about the connection between mental health and SDoH, we sat down with Malekeh Amini, Founder and CEO at Trayt Health. In our interview, we ask Amini to share how mental health issues relate to various SDoH areas like food insecurity, unemployment, transportation, etc. It was eye opening to hear and see how many ties there are between SDoH and a person’s mental health.
While identifying the connection is great, we also asked Amini why many of the large social programs that address SDoH aren’t really addressing the related mental health problems. She shared that while they are having some impact, many people are still suffering with mental health issues because it takes a much more targeted and patient specific effort to address the SDoH issues that are impacting someone’s mental health.
Since Trayt Health works so deeply in the mental health space coordinating all of the various mental health resources, we asked Amini to share some stories or examples where Trayt Health and their mental health partners were able to use data to coordinate their efforts and make a difference in the lives of patients.
Finally, we also talk with Amini about what has been key to Trayt Health’s success. Was it getting everyone on the same platform? Was it the right data? Was it coordinating the efforts across different organizations? Check out our video interview below with Malekeh Amini from Trayt Health to learn the answers and what Amini sees on the horizon for Trayt Health.
