According to new research provided by the Associated Press, a vast bot network on Twitter is showering praise on former President Donald Trump while maligning his critics and political opponents. The operation utilizes tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of bot accounts created in April, October, and November 2022, according to the findings of Cyabra, an Israeli digital research organization.

Trump’s greatest rival for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), has been a particular target of the bots’ animosity. Cyabra revealed that bots unanimously suggested that DeSantis would perform better as Trump’s running mate. Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor fighting Trump for the Republican nomination, is also on the firing line, with roughly three-quarters of the unfavorable posts traceable back to fake accounts. One of the accounts referred to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell as a “traitor” for criticizing Trump. Who or what is behind the network is unknown.
