ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A record-breaking travel day is expected Thursday at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport ahead of the Memorial Day weekend, according to TSA officials.
TSA said they project at least 105,000 passengers will be screened at the airport on Thursday. From midnight to 8 a.m., 33,000 passengers were screened and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., that number jumped to 80,966 passengers.
On Thursday, there was a belt issue that caused luggage to be manually transported for a short while. The issue has since been resolved.
The airport is expected to see 2.5 million passengers travel through the Memorial Day weekend — 5% more than last year.
