Tudorica named AAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Month, reaches quarterfinals of ITA National Fall Championships


TAMPA (November 6, 2023) – The University of South Florida’s Alvin Tudorica has been named the American Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Month, the league announced on Monday. The award comes on the heels of Tudorica advancing to the quarterfinals of the ITA National Fall Championships which were held on San Diego on November 1-5.

Tudorica advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA National Fall Championships with a pair of wins, including a comeback triumph over No. 22 Peter Makk of USC (1-6, 7-6, 6-4). He qualified for the ITA National Fall Championships by earning a runner-up finish at the ultra-competitive Southeast Regionals in Atlanta earlier in October. At the ITA Regionals, Tudorica tallied five wins en route to the championship match, including two victories over ranked opponents. His wins came against foes from Stetson (6-3, 6-4), FAU (7-6 (7), 6-7 (8), 6-4), Florida State (2-6, 6-4, 6-4), UCF (6-3, 6-4) and Miami (6-4, 6-4).

Tudorica and teammate Erik Grevelius, ranked No. 24 by the ITA in the preseason, also advanced to the semifinals of doubles play at the ITA Regionals and earned an at-large bid to the National Fall Championships. The duo reached the semifinals in the consolation bracket at the Fall Championships.

Head coach Ashley Fisher is in his ninth year at the helm of the program for the 2022-23 season. Fischer has guided the Bulls to four NCAA Tournaments, including three trips to the second round. He was named the American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2017 & 2019 after leading USF to the conference title in each of those seasons.
