Turkey Trot race raises money for Food Pantry

The sixth annual Little Falls Turkey Trot 5K run was a success, with over 100 runners hitting the course early Thursday morning.

Race organizer Rob Richard said, “We sold out with 105 runners. We had people from all over the Mohawk Valley and even New York City.”

“All of the proceeds after expenses go to the Food Pantry.”

He also said that they had some outside donations that totaled $200 that would go straight to the Food Pantry in addition to the registration fees. “That money doesn’t get used for any of the expenses.”

The top male and female finishers were Jack Gibson and Jackie Halstead.

Gibson said that his time was 17:52 and that “The run was fun. I’m grateful to be outside and healthy. It was a nice course – I just went out and ran.”

The race course wound up the hill to Moreland Park and Heidi Cochran, one of the runners stated, “They ought to call it the Turkey Climb.”

Richard also offered special thanks for the volunteers who helped with the race – Kim Kelly, Bill Mills, Bart Carrig, Paul Cirillo, Charity Kenyon, Ryan Nash, Erika Bucenec, Logan Cirillo, Mike Evans, Kenny Pelzer, Brandon Snyder, Avery Merchant, and Jessie Pelzer.

“Also thank you to the Little Falls Police Department who provided two patrol cars to help ensure our runners were safe,” Richard stated.

Coffee was provided courtesy of Dave Malone and Stewarts.

Richard said that for the first time, they had sponsors for the Race. Ed’s Pizza, Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, Little Falls Rotary, and Kress Physical Therapy.

”We’re really happy because this helps us give more money to the Food Pantry because it offsets the cost of medals and t-shirts,” he stated.
