In the center of Berks County, where entrepreneurship, culture, and community come together, Latino-owned enterprises are turning aspirations into lasting impacts. One such example is Rise Up Nutrition, a lively health café started by Lilly Oquendo, a driven Latina businesswoman who is dedicated to uplifting her neighborhood and energizing lives. What started out as a one-on-one coaching session in her living room has grown into a popular spot for inclusive health, nutrient-dense beverages, and upbeat energy. Rise Up Nutrition is much more than simply a coffee shop; it’s a symbol of what occurs when business becomes a force for change and passion meets purpose.
From Home Office to Shop: The Development of an Idea
Lilly’s entrepreneurial adventure started at home instead of behind the counter. She spent years working from her living room as a self-employed wellness consultant, assisting clients in achieving their health objectives. Her heart, however, was urging her to provide a more extensive service. “I was inspired by my passion for helping people lead lives full of energy,” Lilly said. “More energy means you get to do the things that bring life more meaning.”
That enthusiasm led to a larger idea: a protein bar and health-conscious café that provided individuals on the go with tasty, wholesome, and quick alternatives. Suddenly, Rise Up Nutrition was established.

Starting a Business During a Difficult Time
Starting your own business is never simple, particularly when a pandemic is sweeping the world. That did not discourage Lilly and her partner, though. Using online platforms, they were interacting with the community before they even opened, generating excitement and establishing credibility.
“We opened during the pandemic, so we had to get creative,” Lilly said. “There were restrictions, supply chain issues, and a steep learning curve when it came to running a brick-and-mortar café.”
Facing Early Obstacles with Work and Passion
Lilly initially had few resources, much like many other small business owners. But rather than allowing that to stop her, she found inspiration in it. “We worked with what we had until we gathered more,” Lilly said.
Developing credibility in a congested market was one of the most difficult challenges. Every visit, every time, Lilly and her coworkers worked to provide a memorable client experience. Additionally, they continued to be active on social media, often posting product details, insightful health advice, and authentic community stories. “We let our service and consistency speak for us,” Lilly said.
The Influence of Representation, Culture, and Community
Lilly’s background is a very personal aspect of her career as a Latina entrepreneur. “My cultural heritage taught me work ethics. It gave me a drive to push forward and create something meaningful,” she shared.
Because of its cultural roots, Rise Up Nutrition has become a welcoming place for everybody. It’s a community center rather than just a café. People from all walks of life may feel powerful, included, and invigorated there.
Words of Wisdom for Future Latino Entrepreneurs
Lilly gives the following advice to everyone who wants to launch their own company: “There’s always someone who’s gone through the same struggle. Do your research. Lean on mentors, attend seminars, read books. Surround yourself with people who inspire you. That support will carry you through when things get tough.”
More than just a neighborhood business, Rise Up Nutrition represents resiliency, purpose, and friendship in Berks County. Lilly’s path demonstrates how one idea can grow into a movement that inspires people’s bodies and hearts when it is accompanied by passion, tenacity, and a dedication to assisting others.
In addition to influencing the economy, Latino businesspeople like Lilly are preparing the way for a future that is prosperous, healthy, and united for future generations.
