Tyler Christopher was attempting to be a better parent to his two children just a month before he died.
The death of the General Hospital actor was confirmed on Wednesday by costar Maurice Benard, who stated that the Emmy-winning actor died at the age of 50 after suffering a heart arrest.
Joanne Morrissey, a superfan who met Christopher at a special meet-and-greet in New York City last month, told People Magazine about Christopher’s addiction and efforts to make apologies.
Morrissey told the source that in a sit down with his followers, he “put his whole life on the line” and was frank about his connection with his children.
Christopher and his ex-wife, former ESPN reporter Brienne Pedigo, had two children, Greysun James Christopher, 14, and Boheme Christopher, 8.
The Days of Our Lives alum told Morrissey that the last time he saw his children was roughly eight months ago, after the previous encounter had gone wrong. The actor had “passed out on the couch” and realized the next day that he had “missed out on” the meeting.
Morrissey revealed that the actor had a “hard time forgiving himself for that,” which is why he vowed to “really make some serious changes to his life to be able to see his kids.”
“His kids were now his priority,” she explained. “He was going to get sober, as difficult as it was, and stay sober so that he could see his kids again.”
