This Special Edition of funding Opens November 1st!
The Public Diplomacy Section (PDS) of the U.S. Embassy in Uruguay is excited to announce a special edition of our U.S. Embassy Fund to support proposals focusing on arts and culture. Projects should encourage and promote cultural and artistic cooperation, collaboration and exchange between the United States and Uruguay while focusing on the Embassy’s strategic priorities as noted below. A total of US $100,000 is available for allocation among eligible proposals, with a maximum of US $10,000 per project.
Deadline: November 30, 2023 by 11:59 p.m.
Together with the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo, Alianza Cultural Uruguay-Estados Unidos is the partner organization responsible for managing the financing and reporting for selected projects.

Application Evaluation
Applications will be selected by an Evaluation Panel made up of representatives of the U.S. Embassy and the Alianza. Proposals may be subject to a request for additional information or a change to the proposal if defined by the panel and to obtain an official record (UEI).
Note: Funds are limited so only the best ranked eligible proposals may be selected. Unsuccessful applicants may not appeal the funding decision but may reapply in future funding calls.
U.S. Embassy Montevideo Priority Themes
Projects should strengthen one or more of the following priorities:
- Uruguay´s economy. Projects may include but are not limited to those that aim to make the economy more diverse, resilient, sensitive to the environment, and/or that extend opportunities to rural, vulnerable, or underserved communities.
- Democracy. Projects may include but are not limited to those that promote or defend human rights and the rule of law, support freedom of information and independent media, strengthen democratic ideas and values, promote accountability and transparency, strengthen civil society organizations, promote civic education, and prioritize the diversity and inclusion of rural communities, vulnerable or less represented in areas of civil society.
- Local, regional, and global security. Projects may include but are not limited to strengthening public order and safety, resilience against violence and drug trafficking in populations at risk, and increased cyber-security measures.
Eligibility
Public Diplomacy funds are subject to statutory authorities that restrict the eligibility and purposes of applicants and projects.
- Eligible entities include non-profit organizations, think tanks, civil society, cultural associations, artists, government agencies, educational institutions, etc. For-profit entities are strictly prohibited from receiving these funds.
- Proposals that are NOT eligible for funding include, but are not limited to: welfare or charity, primary beneficiary is only one business or individual, scientific research, projects that are inherently political in nature or that contain the appearance of partisanship, exchange programs with countries other than the U.S. and Uruguay, programs focused on children under 14 years of age, support for specific religious activities, construction or infrastructure projects, vehicle purchases, for-profit endeavors, or fund-raising campaigns.
Evaluation Criteria
Each application will be rated based on the evaluation criteria outlined below. Reasons for non-selection and rankings of projects by the review panel will not be shared.
