UC Health Ice Rink returning to Fountain Square on Saturday with exciting changes


3CDC is excited to announce the return of the UC Health Ice Rink on Saturday, a favorite of both locals and visitors, ice skating on Fountain Square has become a family-friendly tradition in the heart of downtown each winter.Starting in 2020, the rink implemented a reservation system with timed entry to better serve patrons and limit capacities during the pandemic. After operating on a hybrid model for several seasons, the rink will be returning to strictly walk-up sales for the 2023/2024 season, serving patrons on a first-come, first-served basis.This format will allow skaters to come and go from the rink and offers longer skate times as opposed to the more structured sessions that came with reservations. It will also allow folks shopping and dining downtown to take part in ice skating on a whim, without making a reservation in advance. This year, all open skate sessions are $10 and include admission and skate rental. Children under the age of 4 are free with paid adult admission and must be accompanied on the ice at all times.Fountain Square will again be the only ice rink in the Tri-State to offer a unique Bumper Cars on Ice experience this winter, thanks to Decal Impressions. Operating with a new “punch card” format this year, bumper cars will run opposite ice skating on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bumper car punch cards are available for $10 and are valid for five rides each. These cards are sold on-site and are valid all season. During these split ice skate sessions, admission to the rink is $6 and includes skate rental.The rink features rental skates; a full-service concessions tent with snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages; the 60-foot WGU Warming Tent; and fan-favorite bumper cars on ice on Saturdays and Sundays. Fountain Square’s full-service Fountain Bar will be open during all rink hours, serving beer, wine, mixed drinks, Coca-Cola products, and hot chocolate. “UC Health takes great pride in its support of this beloved Cincinnati holiday tradition hosted at Fountain Square, fostering a sense of unity by bringing together individuals from all corners of our community,” said Rob Wiehe, the chief operating officer at UC Health.Following opening weekend, the rink will be open seven days a week with varying hours and a variety of unique events, including skate lessons, soundtrack skates, Bengals tailgates and watch parties, giveback skates and more. Patrons are encouraged to follow the rink on Facebook to be alerted to the latest events.Fountain Square is located at 520 Vine St. in downtown Cincinnati. Safe and secure parking is available at Fountain Square’s underground garage facility.
