UK Has 5-Year Lead In Automatic Landing Technology

Mr A M A Majendie of Smith, Aircraft Instruments Ltd, in a lecture on All-Weather Operation, given before The Guild of Air Pilots and Navigators, stated: “Officials of the FAA at NAFEC have told me they do not envisage any application of American Bell radar blind landing system for civil transport purposes.“

The Bell system is already being used in military applications in the USA, and has been considered by some authorities to be a possible rival to the British autoland system.
