UNI tennis drops dual opener to Milwaukee


WATERLOO, Iowa — UNI tennis kicked off the spring portion of its 2023-24 season on Saturday afternoon against the Milwaukee Panthers, falling to their opponents from the Cream City by a score of 6-1.

In doubles play, the Northern Iowa duo of Andrijana Brkic and Kim Zizek picked up a narrow 7-6 win over the Milwaukee pairing of Sara Simonova and Babette Burgersdijk, while Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso came up short in a 7-5 loss to Laure Razet and Nadiia Konieva. Kanyanut Sudsaard and Issa Sullivan also dropped their doubles match in a 7-5 loss to Iva Stejskalova and Emilia Durska.

Sudsaard picked up UNI’s lone singles victory of the afternoon in a three-set battle with Simonova, rallying from a 6-2 first-set loss. Brkic would fall to Burgersdijk in three sets, while Dalecka fell to Kovieva in consecutive 6-3 sets. Cardoso challenged Durska in the second set, but ultimately came up short in a 6-2, 6-4 loss, as Zizek tested Razet in the first set before falling 7-6, 6-3. Sullivan would fall to Evelina Anastasi, 6-0, 7-6.

 

UP NEXT
UNI returns to action in Nebraska next weekend as the Panthers face off against the Creighton Bluejays on Feb. 3 at 3 p.m. CT. The Panthers will match up with the Omaha Mavericks on Feb. 4 at 9:30 a.m. CT.
