Union Minister for Steel & Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy has pitched Bengaluru to host the third centre of the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT).
ICAT is a leading automotive testing, certification and R&D service provider under ministry of heavy industries with two centres at Manesar, Haryana.
The facility proposed for Bengaluru will focus on cutting-edge advancements in Electric Vehicle (EV) technology, software-defined vehicles (SDVs), autonomous systems, and data security, positioning Bengaluru as a hub for innovation and excellence in this domain.
While talks are still underway, Kumaraswamy’s strong pitch in favour of Bengaluru during his visit to Manesar on Tuesday has bolstered the city’s chances. The move aligns with the government’s vision of fostering sustainability, innovation, and excellence under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Bengaluru was the most suitable to host the ICAT Centre-III, with its unparalleled IT ecosystem, skilled workforce, and industry-ready infrastructure. Bengaluru integrates advanced automotive IT services with next-generation mobility solutions, Kumraswamy said. The establishment of ICAT Centre-III in Bengaluru could mark a pivotal moment for India’s automotive and technology sectors, positioning the country as a global leader in sustainable and cutting-edge mobility solutions. “Bengaluru has long been the nucleus of technological innovation in India.”
