Upcoming event in Barrie to showcase Canadian Black history, arts and culture

Barrie’s poet laureate, Tyneisha Thomas, and partners are excited to present Speak Your Truth, a vibrant showcase of Canadian Black history, arts and culture at Bloom Bistro in Barrie.

This poetic event will feature local talent in dance, rap, spoken word and poetry, emphasizing the significance of celebrating BIPOC artists and their achievements.

The event will also highlight the importance of literacy and creative writing, serving a custom Caribbean-themed menu for guests to enjoy.

Speak Your Truth is a family-friendly event with no admission cost, encouraging attendees to support the venue by purchasing food and beverages.

The event will take place on March 1 at Bloom Bistro. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with the showcase starting at 6 p.m. and concluding at 9 p.m.

Special guests include Town of Innisfil Coun. Grace Constantine, provincial poet laureate Testament, multi-disciplinary artist JTG, R&B singer Ali and emerging rapper Jay YK.

UPlift Black Artist Collective member Neno will start the event with a sacred circle and song, and a traditional African band will conclude the event, leaving guests grooving in their seats.
