MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Despite warmer-than-usual conditions and rapid snowmelt in Marquette, the 26th annual Noquemanon Ski Marathon is still on, but with course changes.
To meet the quality and safety standards of the Noquemanon Trail Network, the distances have been shortened, the courses have been altered, and all skiers will finish at the Forestville Trailhead, as opposed to NMU’s Superior Dome.
Still, race officials and volunteers are optimistic about the events and the crowd it’ll draw to the Marquette area over two days of skiing.
Upper Michigan Today’s Elizabeth Peterson and Tia Trudgeon are racing on Saturday morning in the Noque 12K division.
They took Friday’s show on the road to the Forestville Trailhead to check out trail conditions, get skiing tips from Down Wind Sports’ Jeff Stasser, chat with Race Director Jason Rolling about moving forward with the event, and learn about injury prevention and nutrition from Athletic Trainer Kari Getschow.
Are you looking to break into the sport of cross-country skiing? Getschow is hosting a clinic on March 2 and 3 at Al Quaal in Ishpeming beginning at 9:00 a.m.
You can sign up for the clinic and learn more about her services at elevateat906.com.
You can view all the changes to the Noquemanon Ski Marathon courses at noquemanon.com.
You can watch Upper Michigan Today on weekdays at 9:00 a.m. on FOX UP or stream the show on your smart device.
