A Van Buren Township woman accused in a September hit-and-run car crash in Dearborn that left a dentist dead has been charged.
April Monique Crawford, 50, has been charged by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office with reckless driving, causing death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident, causing property damage, officials said Thursday.
Crawford is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 21 through 19th District Court in Dearborn.
If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison for the reckless driving charge, prosecutors said. The other charge is a 90-day misdemeanor.
Crawford is accused of causing a crash that killed Christopher Clifford, 41, of Whitmore Lake. He was also a dentist with a practice in Dearborn, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
The crash happened at about 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 25 in the area of Telegraph and Carlysle, according to police.
Officers called to the scene found Clifford unresponsive in his vehicle.
Firefighters removed Clifford from his vehicle and took him to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
A preliminary investigation showed Crawford was speeding south on Telegraph when her vehicle crashed into the back of the dentist’s car.
Police also said Crawford failed to stop at the scene of the crash.
