The Vancouver Auto Show will not be featuring Tesla at its annual event, which kicks off on Wednesday.
Tesla has been embroiled in controversy due to CEO Elon Musk’s close ties to U.S. President Donald Trump, who has imposed hefty tariffs on Canada and has made repeated threats against the nation’s sovereignty.
Musk has also made comments online about Canada not being “a real country” after a petition was started to revoke his Canadian citizenship.
In a statement, Eric Nicholl, the auto show’s executive director, confirmed that Tesla has been removed as a participant from the event “after the automaker was provided multiple opportunities to voluntarily withdraw.”
“The Vancouver Auto Show’s primary concern is the safety of attendees, exhibitors, and staff. This decision will ensure all attendees can be solely focused on enjoying the many positive elements of the event.”
Last week, mass protests were held at Tesla dealerships around Metro Vancouver and the country.
The province has also taken a stance against the electric auto-maker, announcing last week that Tesla products are no longer eligible for CleanBC and BC Hydro rebates.
