Verona artist featured in Overture Center exhibition

Verona artist Pat Kroth’s work is part of the “Impact!” exhibition in the Playhouse Gallery at the Overture Center for the Arts.

According to a news release, Impact! honors the 20th anniversary of the Overture Center in Madison by highlighting the dynamic intersection of visual arts, music and performance, reflecting the enduring spirit of creativity that has defined Overture galleries for two decades.

The exhibit embraces the work of visual artists working in various media and continues through March 9 at the Overture Center, 201 State St. Kroth’s piece, “Fiber Optics,” is composed of machine stitched hand-dyed and recycled fabrics, created while listening to jazz music.

Kroth creates contemporary art quilts which she exhibits locally as well as in national and global exhibitions. She focuses on high contrast color, texture and recycled materials, with inspiration from nature and paired with a bit of whimsy. Kroth started as an abstract painter and printmaker before gradually drifting into fiber and more textual materials.

Her work has been shown in the National Quilt Museum and in the collection of the International Quilt Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. Kroth has exhibited in Crafts National, Quilt National, Fiber Art International, along with solo and group exhibitions. She also creates on-site art installations using repurposed materials with an interest in found materials and environmental concerns.

Kroth’s award-winning work can often be found at regional juried art fairs around the Midwest throughout the year. Her next local event will be at the PBS Wisconsin’s Garden and Green Living Expo at the Alliant Energy Center from Feb. 7-9, according to the release.
