Veterans to be celebrated at Indy Art Center

Veterans and all military-connected community members are invited to the Indy Art Center for a day of art-making workshops.

Attendees will connect with current and former members of ArtTroop, the Indy Art Center’s free program for veterans, to select two workshops and enjoy lunch.

ArtTroop has empowered 55 retired and active-duty service members through self-expression since 2019. In 2025, two ArtTroop cohorts will meet weekly for 10 weeks, one session in the fall and one in the spring. Applications will be posted at IndyArtCenter.org/ArtTroop beginning Oct. 21.

Two exhibitions with works by veteran artists are on display in the Community Gallery through Dec. 15. One features work by current and former ArtTroop members; the other, “Military Community Creations,” features work by military-connected Hoosiers. Works range from needle felting, assemblages, stained glass and more.

“Veterans programming is an important aspect of the Indy Art Center and our creative wellness programs,” said Mark Williams, president of the Indy Art Center. “Time and again, we’re seeing that our classrooms and teaching artists provide the safe, inclusive and supportive environments that lead to personal and artistic growth as well as opportunities for people to thrive emotionally.”

Veterans and military-connected community members can register for the 12th annual Veterans Art Day at IndyArtCenter.org/VeteransArtDay or by calling 317-255-2464.
