MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Shocking surveillance footage shows a man plowing through the Cordova Pit Stop Food Truck Park with his pickup truck Friday evening. Thankfully, the incident did not cause any serious injuries.

Memphis police said the man responsible is behind bars. The target of the attack told FOX13 the situation got out of hand when he tried to stop the suspect from drinking.
Mark Maughmer, who owns the park, said there were around 60 people at the park when it happened. He said Alton Turner, the suspect, had been at the park for around two hours and was drinking and being belligerent.
Maughmer said he went to a nearby bar and told the staff to stop serving Turner, which caused him to drive his truck into him.
“I mean, he literally tried to run us down,” Maughmer said. “If I had a customer standing right at the window at that time, he would have killed them.”
Maughmer said he was standing under a gazebo next to his own food trailer when Turner’s truck came plowing through the fence. Maughmer said another person dove out of the way and he jumped for cover into his own trailer. Surveillance footage shows the truck smashing right into Maughmer’s trailer.
“I got hit with his truck and my refrigerator,” he said. “It knocked me over, knocked me across the truck.”
When he got up, Maughmer said, he saw Turner’s tires were still spinning and shooting off smoke.
“I’m looking at him and he’s steady flooring it, still trying to come,” he said.
Surveillance video shows Turner walking away, which is when Maughmer said he yelled for someone to call 911.
Turner is then seen coming back towards his truck. Maughmer said he warned Turner to stay back, but he didn’t. Maughmer is seen throwing a single punch and knocking Turner out cold.
“I don’t believe violence is the way to go. I’d rather pray for you,” Maughmer said. “I had no other recourse. I had not only myself, but kids and customers to think about. I could not let that man get back in that truck.”
Maughmer said his food truck took about $30,000 worth of damage, some of which he has already fixed. The fence at the park was knocked over. The gazebo Maughmer was standing under was heavily damaged and will need to be torn down. Maughmer said he is bruised up and having trouble getting around, but nothing is broken.
Turner, who Maughmer said has a food truck and used to bring it to the park, faces two counts of attempted second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault. He is being held on a $75,000 bond.
“I think the charges are right,” Maughmer said. “I think the bond is a little low.” He told FOX13 part of the reason he agreed to do an interview was to let people know this was an isolated incident and that his food truck park is not a problem spot.
“Cordova Pit Stop was not designed to be that. It was designed to be a place where you can taste the world in one location,” Maughmer said. “And bring your friends, your family, your kids. You can even bring your dogs, as long as they’re on a leash.”
The food truck park was open through the weekend. Maughmer does not expect the incident to disrupt the future of his business. Turner is due in court Tuesday morning.
